Continuing Education—Summerfield, NC

Dentistry Always
Moves Forward

Dentistry is an ever-evolving field where new techniques, technology, and discoveries appear almost every single day. As you can imagine, keeping up with everything is paramount for Dr. Parry in his mission to provide the most effective, comfortable, and personalized dental care possible. That’s why he routinely engages in continuing education, which sees him flying all over the country to complete various seminars and hands-on courses so he can bring this knowledge back home to benefit you and the rest of the Magnolia Shores Dental family. This page offers a quick peek into what he has been up to lately and previews how our practice will continue to improve as the years go by.

Mastership with the Academy of General Dentistry (MAGD)

To get the MAGD, Dr. Parry needed to complete over 1,100 hours of continuing education (CE) that covered several different categories of dentistry. All of them involved hands-on training - not just bookwork, and then he needed to pass a stringent written exam.

These requirements are why less than 2% of all general dentists achieve the MAGD award, making it a huge and truly unique distinction that you don’t see every day!

To give some perspective, to meet the CE requirements of North Carolina, which is only 15 hours each year, it would take over 73 years to get the necessary hours for an MAGD. By the time Dr. Parry earned it, he had done the equivalent of almost 100 years’ worth of CE!

Adamo & Amanda

Always informative and enlightening, Dr. Parry has taken a couple of Adamo and Amanda’s courses, and this photo is from their IMPRES Cosmetic Bonding seminar. The focus was on mastering different techniques on how to layer composites with various shades to better mimic nature when restoring or creating a refreshed smile.

Rania

When Dr. Parry was at the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry Annual Scientific Session, he didn't know that Rania was going to be there, so they snapped a quick photo by her booth. She is the brains behind the dental management software we use to stay organized in both the front and back. She has been happy to listen to Dr. Parry’s feedback over the last several years to improve the software so that our team is able to work more efficiently (and save you time during your appointments).

Rhys Spoor

Dr. Spoor teaches the Esthetic Excellence Course every year, traveling from Seattle where he practices to Ohio to show dentists how to utilize one of the highest quality dental labs for crowns and veneers in the country (which is also the lab our practice is partnered with). He is well known in the dental community for his cosmetics, and Dr. Parry says it was a real honor to learn from a true master of the art of dentistry!

Dr. Todd Engel

Dental implants are one of the most exciting breakthroughs in dentistry of the last 30 years, and one of the leaders in that field is Dr. Todd Engel. Thanks to his tutelage, Dr. Parry is able to handle more complicated cases, take advantage of the latest technology, and integrate the best materials into the procedure at every opportunity.

Dr. John Kois

The Kois Center, started by Dr. John Kois pictured here, is widely considered to be one of the leading post-graduate education institutions for dentists. In addition to teaching courses on the latest techniques and technology, the Center also conducts its own research to ensure its curriculum is supported by evidence and always on the cutting edge. Dr. Parry is one of just 14 dentists in all of North Carolina who is a graduate of this program.

Nash Institute Cosmetics

The Nash Institute for Dental Learning shows dentists how to elevate their cosmetic work to high art that is perfectly suited to the individual. Dr. Nash’s courses are ideal for dentists like Dr. Parry who are constantly in pursuit of perfection and want all of their cosmetic patients to end up looking like they hit the genetic lottery.

AAID Policy on Members’ Announcement of Earned Credentials

The AAID is the oldest national dental organization in the field of implant dentistry and issues Associate Fellow and Fellow credentials that provide consumers with valuable information relative to a dentist’s education, training, and experience in the area of implant dentistry. In addition, the AAID sponsors the American Board of Oral Implantology/ Implant Dentistry (ABOI/ID), which issues the Diplomate credential.

The AAID encourages its members to obtain one or more of the offered credentials. By doing so, members demonstrate that they have met the educational and experiential requirements for the credential and passed psychometrically-based written and oral examinations.

The AAID believes that advertising of bona fide credentials serves the best interests of all concerned. The AAID does not encourage or support any of its dentist-members’ advertising that they are “specialists” in implant dentistry.

Several court decisions have supported the right of dentists to truthfully advertise their AAID and ABOI/ID credentials. These courts have upheld the right to truthfully advertise the credentials earned in implant dentistry from the AAID and ABOI/ID on the basis of the AAID’s and ABOI/ID’s objective and rigorous procedures. These procedures include the following:

  1. An objectively verifiable set of requirements
  2. The successful completion of a written or oral examination based on psychometric principles
  3. Post–dental school training and experience At this time, the credentials from the AAID and ABOI/ID are the only credentials in implant dentistry that have been so recognized by several courts. Since the training and experience necessary to obtain these credentials inherently benefits patients, it follows that the AAID encourages its credentialed members to advertiser their credentials to the public in any state that permits such advertising. Additionally, the AAID encourages its credentialed members to only advertise credentials in implant dentistry that are bona fide and, at present, only AAID and ABOI/ID credentials have been deemed to be bona fide by several federal court decisions. To include other implant credentials that do not have the same rigorous requirements and testing procedures could be misleading. For this reason, AAID members should not include other implant credentials on their practice announcements when AAID and ABOI/ID credentials are used.
